RIBBON was a short-lived band formed by former LAREINE bassist EMIRU on his own label STRAWBERRY HOUSE (later known as Maple Kiss).
Band history[]
RIBBON announced their formation on June 2002 debuted with a series of secret concerts and the release of their first mini-album in Summer. It seems that their vocalist was initially supposed to be ex-Arege's member and LAREINE roadie Yukio, but was changed to KANZAKI right before announcing the band details.
Even though their first official live at Shinjuku Astro Hall was announced for October, guitarist LUCA suddenly left in September due to personal reasons.
RIBBON went on with two support members on guitar for the rest of the year and closed down their fanclub a couple of months later. In December they released a free single by mail order for Christmas. In the meantime plans for a LAREINE reunion started and RIBBON eventually announced their activity pause on magazines in February 2003 without even holding a last live. EMIRU rejoined LAREINE in March and would also invite KAZUMI on drums.
RIBBON had a one-night revival including all original members on Halloween 2003 for a special gig featuring with NEW SODMY and LAREINE at Omotesando FAB. A commemorative split single featuring a re-recording of "TERRITORY" was also released.
Afterwards KANZAKI briefly continued activities as a solo artist before retiring from the scene (LUCA also reappeared a support member for a while). He resurfaced for a few months in 2007 with a new project which was eventually cancelled due to unspecified health problems.
